Learn about autism spectrum disorder,  how it can affect patient care for both children and adults, and best practices to help communicate with and care for patients with sensory, verbal and other processing challenges.

Objectives:

• Define autism spectrum disorder (ASD)

• Identify common characteristics that might be present in pediatric and adult patients with ASD

• Learn practical strategies for adapting to the unique challenges of patients with ASD

• Outline what EMS practitioners should (and should not) do to ensure optimum outcomes for these patients
